When to use it
- You have many feature ideas and no criteria to choose.
- You want to start from user needs.
- You are preparing a roadmap based on tests.
How to do it, step by step
- Put the target outcome at the top (a metric to move).
- List the opportunities: needs, problems or wishes observed in users.
- Group them in a tree and choose the one to tackle first.
- Come up with several solutions for that opportunity.
- For the most promising ones, define a small experiment to test the assumption.
Example
Outcome: raise the share of users still active after 7 days. Opportunity: “I don't know where to start”. Solutions: project template, guided tour, welcome email.

The tree is built level by level and kept up to date as your experiments progress.
