When to use it
- Tasks fall between two chairs.
- Several people decide on the same topic, or nobody does.
- A new team is starting and needs to organise itself.
How to do it, step by step
- List tasks or deliverables in rows.
- List people or roles in columns.
- In each cell, enter R, A, C, I or nothing.
- Check there is exactly one A per row and at least one R.
- Share the matrix with the team and settle disagreements.

Deliverable “approved mock-up”: the designer is R, the project manager is A, the client is C, the engineering team is I.
